Ficuses are well known as houseplants, much of which can be attributed to their role as large specimen plants in the home. There are a wide variety of leaf shapes, sizes, colors, and textures, but most ficuses are woody plants that over time develop a strong trunk and tree-like branching structure. The Fiddle Leaf Fig, one of the most common species, prefers strong indirect light, but most of the varieties you’ll find would prefer at least some direct sun, and many thrive in as much as full exposure in a southern window. Ficuses have a reputation for dropping leaves after moving locations or changes to their routine, but this is also quite variable depending on the species.
